Teaching (including supervising, mentoring and examination) has been an integral part of Florian's previous position as a University Assistant at TU Wien. He was teaching general and synthetic chemistry courses and supervised more than 20 research projects of undergraduate and graduate students at TU Wien. These research projects normally take about four to six weeks, but many of the students carried on with their projects on a voluntary basis, gaining substantial lab experience and becoming enthusiastic organic chemists. As their mentor, Florian continues to facilitate and support their development and career. In 2018, Florian received the pro didactica team award from the student council of the Faculty of Technical Chemistry for teaching the best laboratory course. Based on a student survey, the General Chemistry course was selected as the best laboratory course.

In 2019, Florian was appointed Assistant Supervisor at Imperial College London after completing the required training. He has since supervised many Bachelor and Master projects at Imperial College and is assisting in the supervision of PhD students in the group of Prof. Martin Heeney. To actively develop his teaching and supervising skills, Florian has taken courses offered by the Educational Development Unit at Imperial College, such as Teaching for Learning, Supervising PhD Students, Personal Tutoring, and Technologies for Teaching and Learning. He is also further developing his team management skills by courses offered by the Postdoc and Fellows Development Centre, such as Managing Your First Research Group and Leadership in Research: Vision, Strategy and Team Culture.
